[mod. f. Gr. ἄνθρακ- coal + ξέν-ος stranger, guest; so named by Reuss in allusion to its occurrence as a foreign substance in coal.]
A brownish-black resin-like substance, occurring in amorphous masses which alternate with layers of coal, in the coal-beds of Brandeisl, near Schlan, in Bohemia.
